In the pipeline industry pipelines form the beating heart of a company. They transport all types of materials from A to B. However, when the performance of a pipeline is reduced this has consequences for the entire logistical process. It is therefore of essential importance to maintain the performance of a pipeline at its highest level. Careful maintenance is required. Not only with regard to its strength and possible leakages, but also with regard to the maintenance of the interior: cleaning the pipeline itself. Any type of deposit on the interior has an impact on the flow rate and purity of the materials being transported through the pipelines. To clean the interior of the pipelines so-called studded pigs (or decoking pigs) are used. The excellent technical characteristics of these studded pigs make them very suitable for decoking (internal combustion engines) or for de-scaling (removing deposits) extremely polluted interiors of pipelines. Such pipelines can be found in oil refineries, incinerators, water supply systems and the paper and food industry.

Decoking pigs are produced in various lengths and diameters (from 1” to 12”) for the various applications and dimensions of the pipelines. The studded pigs consist of a flexible, spherical polyurethane foam cylinder with a very wear-resistant outer in which studs have been placed.

To clean the pipelines very wear-resistant and flexible pigs are pushed through the pipeline. Due to their composition the studded pigs start to rotate in the pipeline. This achieves a maximum result and also prevents so-called tracking (grooves) in the pipelines.
